2009
Reflections
A year filled with unforgettable joyful memories. A year with big challenges and emotions of all kinds.
It was a great joy to witness my grandson's first birthday. Individual happenings of the year you can see posted in the months of 2009.
Loosing my close friend Petra was difficult. She went on to cross over to the other side, where eternity was waiting for her. Lorraine, a very special young lady just twenty years of age was called much to early to leave our world behind. We lost Traudel, our good friend of 38 years. Dr. O.C. Simonton from CA., whom I have heard in Heidelberg in May, passed away just shortly after. Dr. Dieter Hager, Medical Director of the Biomed-Klinik in Germany, whom I had known and respected a lot, passed on to the other side. The loss of another very special person who was in my life since 37 years has been difficult to cope with. We will remember the tragic death of Robert Enke, the young German goal keeper. And there is Jim Rohn, a great teacher and business philosopher who also was called to leave this world. Though we are mourning the losses, the memories of these special people will live on in our hearts.

26. November 2009
-- Thanksgiving Day.
One of the biggest National Holidays celebrated in the USA.
It was George Washington during his first year as President who set aside Thursday, November 26 as "A Day of Public Thanksgiving and Prayer." The American holiday began as a feast of thanksgiving in the early days of the American colonies
almost four hundred years ago and is now celebrated every year on the 4th Thursday in November.
9. November 2009 --- Germany is celebrating 20th anniversary of the Berlin Wall coming down!
No more Iron Curtain dividing East and West Germany!
20 years ago we had just come back from the Oasis Hospital in Mexico, when Willy, one of our Skycaps at the Denver Airport told us this unbelievable news. Actually, I thought he was joking. He was so happy to be the first one informing us about this historic event. He went on and on telling us that everyone knows this news and could not believe we had not heard it. Well, we drove home, wandering if he made a bad joke or not. It was amazing and unbelievable to find out indeed that the wall came down!
And today my son is studying in one of the "ex east" regions of Germany called Thüringen.
you have to see some of these videos from November 1989

1. November ---All Saints Day
Christians celebrate all their saints and martyrs on November 1. The tradition began in 4th century and is possibly related to the pagan tradition called Feast of the Lemurs that was held in honor of all the dead. Throughout history numerous dates were designated for honoring different Christian saints. Bishop of Rome, Gregory III moved the All Saints' Day to November 1, and around 835 Gregory IV officially ordered the holiday to be celebrated on this day by all Christians.

10. October 2009 reunion of employees of Eastern Airlines Phoenix, Arizona
Eastern Airlines which had the headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia had started in October 1979 to add Phoenix to their routes. So quite a few of us were hired through transfers from New Jersey and Chicago and six of us were hired "of the street", meaning we already lived in Phoenix. We went through lengthy interviews and medical testing before we were hired and sent to ticketing training to Miami, Florida for about five weeks. Being based at a small station like ours, we were not just working at the ticket counter, but being cross trained to work in baggage service, the gates and the ramp. That's what made it so interesting.
The one who was put in charge of the new Eastern Airlines Station was Jeff Schwartz, the person who had this 30 year reunion
at his house in Arizona.
It was a lot of fun to see the "old" faces again. Actually, it was hard to realize, that when we worked together for years, we had small children and most of us now were sharing pictures of our grandchildren. Lots of fond memories and funny stories were exchanged. No way it feels as if sooo many years have passed. Thank you for hiring us, Jeff! We are all sorry that our airline lost the battle of staying alive and had to close down in January 1991. But surely, the challenging and great times we had together keep alive in our memories! And Butch, just to let you know, Jeff's decision to hire you as a supervisor was shockingly good!

December 31, 2008- Viewing the year it was a very special year! I was blessed with encounters and experiences
which
I will carry
in my heart for ever! The most precious moment of course was the birth of my little grandson!
Sorry that our dear friends Tom and Ed were called from this life just before the little one was born. Also Skye,
who I became very close to was called to her "eternal home". Another friend, Kurt, was called to leave this earth.
We will miss them all but their spirit will stay with us!
Newly established connections with former colleagues and our station manager from "Eastern Airlines" in Phoenix.
The last time we met was at a re-union twelve years ago in Arizona.
Brian however, was not there and no one was connected with him that time. Seems like he had vanished. Well,
we
all are in touch again. I owe Brian a lot! He gave me in early 1983 a book, written by Dr. med. Sattilaro, and insisted I
read
it! And then he insisted not only to read it, but also to keep it! Well, that very same book with Dr. Sattilaro's story had influenced our whole family's life greatly and not just short term but throughout our life! But this is a part of another long page in my life...it has no room in this homepage. But here is room enough to say "thanks Brian!"
It felt great also to re-connect with
Betsy, Sandy,
Jeff, Patty, Corie and Cindy bringing back good old memories from working together in the 80's!

Summer 2008 --Volunteer for the Patients Support Program at the Oasis of Hope Cancer Hospital, B.C., Mexico.
This year it is a very "special year"!
Exactly this summer we are celebrating the "20 year connection" between the Oasis of Hope and my family.
It was exactly twenty years ago, when my husband, our twelve year old daughter and our infant set foot into
this
place, the very first time. At the time this hospital carried the name "Hospital Contreras". It was given the
founders family name. During the first two years we had to undertake lots of visits to this clinic. You can find
out more about these crucial times at the "about me" page.
This summer, see also 2007, was again a very rewarding time spent here with the cancer stricken patients
and their companions. I feel so very much blessed that God put me on this earth and has been keeping me
here. I am deeply grateful for the given opportunity, I call it "life with challenges and obstacles" to share
with others here.
The thank you and appreciation for supporting me go to the courteous and friendly
hospital office staff and the department of Emotional Support, who welcome me into the team!
"My thank you" also goes, of course to the Spiritual Support Group, headed by Pastor Bruce and his
wife
Vicky, for putting every one before themselves. And there is no way I can forget the friendly
kitchen staff! Just take a look at some of the "nutritious foods" pictures I put up in my photo gallery!
This is the kind of healthy food we all benefit from and the only place I do not have to supplement
the antioxidants. This is the only place I know of, where my fruit and veggie capsules are not needed!
The food here has an abundant amount of pure God given medicinal properties! And the kitchen
staff
puts three times a day, seven days a week, so much love into preparing and serving the
colorful
health
supporting foods! Therefore a great "thank you", "danke" and "gracias" to these ladies!
And last but not least, nothing would be as it is at the Oasis of Hope, if the heads of the hospital would
not be personally interested and involved in the well being of their staff.
And
the
holistic approach in helping the patients getting on the way to better health is designed by the
philosophy of seeing "body, mind and spirit" as one. I thank Francisco Contreras, M.D.
and Mr. Daniel Kennedy to carry on this mission, which the late Dr. Ernesto Contreras, my oncologist,
their father and grandfather believed in and helped many, many, many people!

31. Dec. 2007 --- What a delight to have found this year two of my "old" girl friends and my former manager,
all with whom I had lost contact with between 1971 und 1977 until now! More than thirty years and even up to
thirty six long years we had not known the where about's of each other. Now we are connected again!
The first contact this year was with my former manager Marliese. She was In-Flight Manager of Overseas
National Airways (ONA) in New York where she interviewed and then hired me for the position of
Flight Attendant. This was February 1975. She was highly respected as a person and manager. I
often
wondered during the years what happened to her. The last phone conversation between us was in
1977. It was a tough one. It was then when I told her I needed to resign from the job I loved. We just
did not find a responsible person whom we could trust taking care of our baby daughter.
This spring
Marliese and I connected within two hours thanks to the lovely Webmaster Elisabeth of the ONA
homepage who lives in Stockholm, Sweden! Marliese lives in the State of New York.
Also Gaby, whom I saw last in 1973 and never knew where she was living afterwards I did find again. Even though we had different personalities, we always got along great and had lots of fun together. Right away during the first phone call we hit it off again and no one would have guessed this was the very first contact in thirty four years! Gaby has a great gift. She is very artistic. She can draw people and faces using coal and pencil. In the meantime she studied Art, has been creating jewelry and doing sculptures. She was telling me about her next Exhibition close to Stuttgart on May 5, 2007. I took the train and surprised her while she was setting up her sculptures. It was a beautiful exhibition. Her love for the art reflects the carefully created feminine sculptures as well as the creation of her unique jewelry pieces. What a great and versatile Artist! You can view only a small number of pieces right here:

Tea and I spent together New Years Eve 1970 in Montreal, Canada. Tea came with her family from Italy and lived in my hometown in the Black Forest. 1969 she and her sister Laura left Germany and moved to Montreal, Canada where relatives lived. At about the same time I moved to from Germany to New York. There I became friends with Francine, who also had uncle and aunt in Montreal and so we drove up there sometimes. Even though we had lots of fun together, our contact broke off after I had moved to California in 1971. Francine I lost tragically when she was hit on New Years Eve 1971 by a car which was speeding through red while she was crossing the intersection. She was together with her father on the way to visit her mother in the hospital when both got killed instantly.
Tea I found through her niece's web site just a few days ago. Her niece Marisa was not known to me until this day I contacted her. In no time the contact to Tea was established. This is great! She moved back to Italy in 1981 and lives with part of her family close to Pescara. We are looking forward to our next getting
together after 37 years!

A personal note about vital nutrients.
To let you all know, just as predicted I am missing the huge variety of fresh veggies, the six or more different
kinds of freshly squeezed juices and a whole lot of different fresh fruits, which are all organic and served
with love at the Oasis of Hope Hospital. However, I am visualizing about it at meal times and hope the
nutrients will jump thru the mind into my body.... In case that does not work, I am glad to have a back up
with my fruits and veggie capsules! But don't forget: I do eat healthy and I do eat my fruits and veggies
- but taken it seriously; not enough veggies on a daily basis.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
Yes, and the pink bow you can see every where.
Glad that we are getting the breast cancer awareness out into more and more communities and into the
homes of people! While we are all looking for a cure of this disease, which hopefully will be found during
the next few years, I also have on top of my list the awareness we need to share with people about
"prevention" of diseases such as breast cancer. Is there something we can do? What can each one of
us do to have a slimmer chance of getting different kinds of chronic illnesses?
September 30, 2007 KOMEN Frankfurt 8th Race for the Cure
It was a sunny day with mild temperatures at the Main River. A perfect day for an event like our race.
This year there were 5.507runners and walkers registered. Among them were about 400 survivors,
who were participating in a pink Race for the Cure T-shirt. With this number of participants we topped
all seven previous KOMEN races in Germany. The third place among the survivors running the 5km made
my friend Rita from Frankfurt. The atmosphere was great. Everyone had fun. Kids, parents, grandparents,
uncles, aunts, cousins, related to someone with breast cancer or just anyone who likes to run or walk
for a good cause. Lots of volunteers were helping. Different breast cancer related and other groups
were present offering information or products.

Summer 2007 Patient Support Program at the Oasis of Hope Hospital, Baja California, Mexico
I was quite honored and grateful for the invitation of Francisco Contreras, M.D., and Mr. Daniel Kennedy of
the
Oasis of Hope Clinic, to be part of the patient support program, which the clinic offers. Mr. Kennedy,
Dr.
Ernesto Contreras' grandson has a Masters Degree in Biblical Counseling and is the initiator of this
program which has been for many years a vital part of the clinics cancer treatment plan. As you know,
I have been going there for nineteen years and it is without doubt a very special place. There is a unique
and uplifting spirit all around which everybody can feel. The clinic offers besides the integrative medical
treatment also the emotional and spiritual support with both, love and encouragement. The medical staff
provides a weekly questions and answers session, which is very valuable to the patients and companions.
Also once a week one of the doctors, sometimes Dr. Contreras himself, sometimes the head of
the research department, Dr. Barroso will lecture and explain the therapies. In addition to all the medical
doctors, the nutritionist, the fantastic and creative cooks on staff, the clinic has three full-time psychologists
plus four full-time "Friends of Hope". The Friends of Hope are quite talented people. Some have back
grounds in ministry. These people can sing, play different instruments, read scriptures, prepare and
facilitate the "Morning Reflections" and the "Prayer and Share" evening time. During the day they visit
with patients in the rooms giving valuable support and loving encouragement. In addition there is Shary
Oden coming from Arizona a few months every year. Shary has been part of the hospital for thirty seven
years. She is sharing her beautiful voice through singing and she also teaches how to strengthen the
immune system through laughter. All these wonderful people share a very special and important time with
patients and their companions. I have deep respect for their work. It was certainly a very touching
and
rewarding experience to be part of all this! I feel so blessed to have been able to contribute thru my
own experience and so provide understanding of the emotional and spiritual effects which cancer families
face. It feels good to be able giving inspiration through sharing of the own cancer challenges. I am
grateful to all the people who shared their story, their fears, their hopes, their faith, their singing,
praying and laughing. It has been giving me a treasure of spiritual growth, more than I ever can put in words!
In memory and great respect to the late Dr. Ernesto Contreras, who was my Mexican oncologist, and
a
pioneer in seeing and treating the patient as one: Body, Soul and Mind. Without his love for the patients,
love for his calling as a cancer specialist, hard work and perseverance, this place today would not be what
it is for thousands of seriously ill people: A place of Hope and Healing. It is great to know that his son,
Dr. Francisco Contreras and his hospital team is following in his fathers' foot steps.

Summer 2007 Personal project while living at the Abbey of St. Walburga in Colorado, USA.
What a beautiful, peaceful place in the northern part of this colorful State. Here many people come to find
personal peace and/or stay for personal or group retreats, take spiritually related workshops or attend
lectures. While I was there, an icon making workshop was offered and people came from different
US States to participate. I just peeked in before the workshop was ending. The finished icon paintings
were fabulous. Since the Abbey is right off Interstate Highway 287, some travelers come by just to
see the Abbey church and pick up some of the books or hand crafted articles from the gift shop. How
blessed
I am not only to know this special place but to be able to call it "my home"!
More about my project at some other time, as it still needs to be completed.

Summer 2007 Celebrating in Denver, Colorado
I had lunch with my friend Betsy and my oncologist who has been part of my life the last twenty years. I
appreciate he took time off from his busy schedule and we had a good time while talking about these
years
and about breast cancer therapies today. Twenty years ago we did not think that we would have
lunch
together twenty years later, celebrating new life. We always got along well even when our opinions
were
different. On one thing we still did not agree on, though. He still says there is no scientific research
out
which states that "emotions" have any influence of the disease or the healing process.... We will pick
up
this subject in the future again... Surely this statement will be different then!
We had planned a Luncheon with some close friends but as it turned out I was up for a surprise. I was
presented with a beautiful flower bouquet, more friends and our "old" boss, the Station Manager from our
great, but no longer existing Eastern Airlines. I have to say that I was quite moved by the effort for this
get-together and I thank the two or three ladies, Jan, Sue and Wendy? for arranging it! Awesome! Some
people I have not seen in over fifteen years, but the memories are all there. Jan and I were pregnant the
same time in 1987. She gave birth to Liz just one month before Andreas was born. The Eastern Airlines
gang had a baby shower for both of us together and we were literally "over" showered with things babies
need and more.
Yep, you sure are all great! Thank you for coming and keeping in touch!

May 14, 2007 Workshop with Dr. O. C. Simonton, Heidelberg
The all-day workshop with the well known author and expert on visualization, Dr. Simonton was held
on
Monday the 14th. He lives in California but still travels to lecture and give workshops. It was great to have
been able to attend his workshop right here. No matter how many times I have heard lectures, attended
classes, doing study groups of the same subjects, there is always something new to learn. Also it is the
people I meet at these places who fascinate me. Most of them have a positive outlook even if their
personal stories sometimes are rather horrible. Many have different reasons to learn the meaning of
visualization, but mostly they share the basic interest in using this tool to help getting back their health.
They know it is vital to participate in their own health management.

13th International Convention of Complementary and Natural Cancer Defense, (my own translation)
was
celebrating their 25th anniversary. It was a three day convention with more than 1500 people attending
and was Europe's largest convention of its kind. The focus of this Non Profit Organization is simply to
see people as a whole -body, mind and spirit- and apply this philosophy to all cancer therapies.
There were 100 lectures and workshops about latest news and research as well as addressing
different ways which can help the process of healing. The board members of this organization are
Medical Doctors who went beyond medical school to study the influence of nutrition, herbs,
acupuncture,
and more, in the body-mind-spirit connection of the human health.
